We offer a variety of different Psychological Assessment reports:
What is a Social Assessment Report?
A Social Assessment Report is often used to represent the children in the Children’s Court of Queensland. Its submission provides the Court with an independent opinion of the well-being of the children to determine the best course of action moving forward.
Hollie is a psychologist who provides independent consultancy and report-writing services and holds vast experience in conducting Social Assessments for the Children’s Court of Queensland.
Typically, Hollie is commissioned to perform Social Assessment Reports through the preferred suppliers of Legal Aid. Working with the Children’s Court means legislative requirements must be adhered to, and as an independent assessor, Hollie also has an ethical responsibility to act in the best interests of the children.
What recommendations may be made by the Social Assessment Report?
A Social Assessment Report may make recommendations pertaining to Child Protection Orders, including Contact Arrangements.
How is the information collected to compile a Social Assessment Report?
1.
Upon commissioning a Social Assessment Report, our psychologist, Hollie, will ensure that the involved parties are contacted to schedule interviews and observation sessions.
2.
Scheduled interviews and observation sessions will be conducted at Hollie’s office and involve communicating with the parents and children involved in the Social Assessment Report.
3.
Meetings will be undertaken with the parties involved in the Report, including the respective children and any other relevant parties, including foster carers, kinship carers, child safety officers, current and ex-partners and other relevant professionals.
The type of information typically collected during the interview includes:
- Family history;
- Children's history;
- Your children's individual needs;
- The views, concerns and proposals of all parties involved, including the children; and
- Safety issues relating to the children or adults.
Please note that children are only interviewed if they meet the requirements of an appropriate age; otherwise, only an observation will occur.
Tips to ensure you and your children are prepared for the interview and assessment for the Social Assessment:
- If the children are in your care, inform them that they will see someone who will help you work out the best way to spend time with the people who are important to them;
- Remain as transparent as possible and inform the children that while the appointments will take about two hours, you may be there for most of the day;
- Always act in the best interests of your children; and
- Come prepared to discuss all issues, concerns or proposals.
